Fabled Plains is a collective of musicians from across Northern Illinois, with as much distance between them musically as there is literally. This becomes evident when you hear them together.
Each musician honed their craft through their own niche before finding common ground together. While one might think this to be a rather difficult environment to create in, it has proven to be quite the opposite.
The band was founded by songwriter, Orlando Peña in late 2017 as he began playing out with a collection of heartfelt folk songs he had written during his time on a family farm in Rochelle, IL. After gaining some notoriety he decided it was best to find people who could help realize his vision for a bigger, more impactful sound.
A friend had put him in touch with violinist Abby Rose, of Elgin, IL, who was currently residing in DeKalb where she studied music at NIU. Together they took the songs to new heights with heart wrenching violin sections and vocal harmonies.
As a duo, they quickly jumped back in to gigging, often sharing a bill with friend, Bryan Olson of Rockford, IL, whom had already been working with Peña in a different project for the last year. After a while it became obvious that Olson was the missing piece, with his deep understanding of composition, tasteful harmonies, and masterful guitar work. And so, the band was born.
Fabled Plains weaves an eclectic tapestry of genres in to traditional folk and Americana. They craft upbeat, genuine, refreshing songs about misfortune, vices, rambling, and of course love, in to a style that could appeal to many different listeners.
Although they are still in their infancy, Fabled Plains is poised to make a lasting impression on Midwest music and beyond in the upcoming year.
"Fabled Plains got its start in 2017 when singer/songwriter Orlando Pena began his search for a violinist, found in Abby Rose.
The band continued to grow with the addition of electric guitarist Bryan Olson and bassist Cory Ellis. Fabled Plains’ sound is eclectic, building on folk, rock, blues and funk elements.
They make use of heartfelt melodies, exciting instrumentals and ringing three-part harmonies. Listen to upcoming single “Settling” at Orlandopenamusic.com."
